Alternative way to receive appointment letters
In case you missed it, you can now receive your appointment letters by email instead of in the post. You can also receive appointment reminders by text. Register with My Letters now by visiting the 'Patients & visitors' page on the Dudley Group website: www.dudleygroup.nhs.uk
In order to sign up you must make sure you have given your GP your most up to date mobile number when you have checked in for your appointment.

DISABLED BUS PASSES
CENTRO is now known as NETWORK WEST MIDLANDS. If disabled people need to replace a disabled concessionary pass, either lost of stolen, the cost has now risen to £7.50.

Beacon services at Mary Stevens Centre, Stourbridge
As of 1st November ‘Thomas Pocklington Trust’ handed over their services in Stourbridge to ‘Beacon’. The services Beacon provide to people with sight loss will continue to run at the ‘Mary Stevens Centre’ Stourbridge.

New Blue Badge Wallets
There′s a new type of wallet for displaying a Blue Badge that is hologram safe – it meets Department of Transport’s new guidelines; the hologram is not behind plastic, or rubbed when taken out, so permits are displayed legally, protected from damage and easily removed.

New Housebound/Home Library Service from DMBC
There′s a housebound/home library service that is for residents of Dudley Borough, who are confined to their own home and who do not have anyone to go to the local library for them. They also provide a service to people in residential homes and day centres.

NHS England introducing greater access to information for disabled patients
NHS England have produced a standard that tells its organisations how they should ensure that disabled patients receive information in formats that they can understand and they receive appropriate support to help them to communicate.

TV Licence Concession for Blind or Severely Visually Impaired People

 

Blind and severely visually impaired people can get a 50% reduction in the cost of their licence fee. A blind concession TV licence costs £72.75 for colour and £24.50 for a black-and-white TV licence. The licence will also cover anyone who lives with you.


Applicants need to fill in an application form and provide one of either of the two following certificates to confirm that you are certified as either blind or severely sight impaired:

         
  •   a copy of the certificate or document issued by or on behalf of your local authority
  •       
  •   a copy of the certificate from your ophthalmologist

Equipment such as electric profiling beds, pressure relieving mattresses and hoists etc can be hired from Huntleigh Healthcare.

Ring and Ride Numbers

Important changes to the Ring and Ride service.
From 30 March there will be changes to the Ring and ride service as below:

  • Changes to the booking line number. Dudley users should call 0333 006 6026. The enquiry line number will not change.
  • The daytime fare will remain at £1 but after 7 PM fares will rise to £2 per journey.
  • A limited Sunday service will return from 12 April 2015. The fare for a Sunday journey will also be £2 per journey.

Do you have a life limiting condition, a disability or are pregnant or have a disabled child, or do you find it difficult to use public transport because of a mobility, sensory or health problem?
If you can answer yes to any of these questions, you may be eligible to register for the Ring and Ride.

This is a pre-book door-to-door service that could make getting out and about easier. And, if you are registered, did you know that Ring and Ride can get you to the dentist, doctors, to get blood tests or to a podiatry appointment as well as to go visit family and friends, lunch clubs, bingo or shopping, in fact anywhere except for a hospital appointment?

The Beacon Bus is a completely free service, with our friendly staff offering sight loss advice and guidance and demonstration of assistive living aids and equipment to anyone affected by sight loss or their friends and family. This invaluable service raises awareness of sight loss and educates people of the importance of eye health so hop on board to find out more.

The bus is also available for bookings for community groups and events, schools/colleges and companies which would like to find out more about Beacon and what we do.
